NSW Police do not oppose an LGBTIQ+ protest which will coincide with the funeral of cardinal George Pell, and have only taken issue with its proposed route, a court has been told.
George Pell’s coffin is carried into Sydney’s St Mary’s Cathedral where he lies in state until his funeral.Part of the route includes College Street, which would take the demonstration past St Mary’s Cathedral where Pell’s body is lying in state.Earlier today, barrister Sebastian De Brennan said his client, the NSW Police Commissioner, “does not wish to prevent in any way this public assembly from taking place”.
