Australia needs to “get cracking” on investing in the future of defence and the economy, according to Treasurer Jim Chalmers.

He said the AUKUS nuclear submarines agreement is as much of an economic policy as it is a national security policy.

“We’ve wasted too long as a country, the wasted decade has cost our people dearly, we don’t want to have another decade like the last,” he said.
