With new, sprawling suburbs quickly outpacing key amenities, Australian cities are tipped by Alphabet subsidiary Wing to become a major market for drone technology.

Jesse Suskin, head of policy at Alphabet subsidiary Wing, says drones are more likely to delivery smoothies and sandwiches than goods usually brought by delivery drivers.Wing’s head of Australian public policy Jesse Suskin the technology was more likely to replace journeys being taken by the public – to pick up a smoothie or a sandwich – rather than truck drivers or couriers, given the drone’s small delivery payload.
The Federal Department of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development is refining drone delivery guidelines, which are expected to be released in the second half of 2023.
