Australia has marked another major milestone in the easing of tensions with France after the two countries struck a landmark deal over support to Ukraine.
“The initiative leverages the complementarities of respective defence industries and meets Ukraine’s urgent need for 155-millimetre ammunition,” a joint bilateral statement read.
“To make sure that Ukraine is able to stay in this conflict and be able to see it concluded on its own terms.” In its place the then-Morrison government signed the AUKUS deal which will see Australia secure up to eight nuclear-propelled submarines to replace the retiring Collins Class. "There are no plans for any conventionally powered interim submarine capability as we move towards gaining the nuclear powered submarine.”
