"I'm both in awe of it and worried about it," Kevin Welch, the board president of Austin's digital civil liberties group E.F.F., said. "These tools are legitimately one of the most powerful things humanity has ever created. And we need to have a lot of rules and regulations in place to make sure they help and don't harm people."

He points to this as one example of how the use of artificial intelligence can have potentially unpredictable and harmful consequences.
