AUSTIN, Texas — Marlo Saunders started the nonprofit 33Up Inc. with the help of his wife Nyki and brother Marcus. They aim to help kids reach goals, such as covering costs for college and competitive events. Staff members also help them find jobs after graduating high school and college, when their athletic careers end.
After playing professionally overseas, Saunders began working at the Boys and Girls Club of Central Texas. That’s where he unlocked his passion for giving back to the youth, and planned to apply a similar model for his own ideas. Their staff identifies with each kid, and remembers they also needed some direction to reach their goals.
