Cricket World Cup: Glenn Maxwell has vowed to play every game of the World Cup, despite ongoing ankle soreness.
Maxwell to play through pain for Aussies | 01:11Marcus Stoinis is under an injury cloud ahead of Australia’s World Cup opener, with the all-rounder picking up a hamstring complaint during last month’s ODI series against India.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Australian coach Andrew McDonald confirmed that Stoinis had sustained a hamstring twinge during last month’s ODI against India in Mohali. The West Australian, who joins opener Travis Head in the casualty ward, will be “touch and go” for Sunday’s match against the host nation in Chennai, according to McDonald.
“We‘ve got the main session today and then another hit out tomorrow, so he’ll go through his work there and we’ll see whether he’s available for selection for game one. Stoinis’ setback opens the door for all-rounder Cameron Green to slot into the starting XI for Australia’s tournament opener at MA Chidambaram Stadium.On Tuesday, Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell confessed there were “a few sore bodies” in the squad following the recent white-ball tours of South Africa and India, which included 13 games in five weeks.
