The police took Jose Moya into custody for investigation of vehicular homicide. They also recovered a black 2020 Nissan Altima that they say was involved in the crash and towed it for evidence, Aurora Police Department officials said in an agency statement Friday morning.
The 56-year-old bicyclist died at the scene in the eastbound lanes of East Colfax after suffering serious injuries in the collision about 11:12 p.m. Thursday. Police had appealed for help from the public, seeking any existing vehicle dashboard camera footage, trying to identify the vehicle involved in the crash and the driver. And they “were able to develop information,” the officials said in their posting.
“The Altima had damage consistent with striking a bicycle and Moya admitted to being involved in a crash,” police officials said. “He was arrested on charges of vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a crash involving death.” The crash led to the closure of East Colfax in both directions between the intersections with Joliet and Kingston streets for nearly four hours before 3 a.m., according to police spokesman Joe Moylan.: Officers are investigating a crash between a bicyclist and automobile on Colfax near Kenton. The man riding the bicycle died on scene and the unknown vehicle did not stop.
