“Everybody doubted our guys coming into the game,” said Auburn coach Keith Etheredge, who won four state titles at Leeds and another at Oxford. “To beat a team like those guys, you’ve got to bring the house sometime. We had to take some chances.” alpreps

Auburn coach Keith Etheredge, who knows a thing or two about winning state championships, said something had to change if his team was going to beat Central-Phenix City in the Class 7A semifinals.

“Everybody doubted our guys coming into the game,” said Etheredge, who won four state titles at Leeds and another at Oxford. “To beat a team like those guys, you’ve got to bring the house sometime. We had to take some chances.” Will Best kicked the decisive extra point to send the Tigers into the Super 7 against three-time defending 7A champion Thompson on Nov. 30 at Jordan-Hare Stadium.“They’ve played on guts all year,” Etheredge said of his players. “ got a great football team, but our kids played well tonight. We don’t have any five-star kids but they played like a team.”

Pittman hurled a 27-yard pass to Jack Hudson, who broke inside defensive back Ashdon Reed, to give the Tigers a first down at the Red Devils’ 9.
