KUALA LUMPUR: PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reminded party leaders, who have been absent from the party’s monthly meetings, to attend them if they want to discuss matters.
“This is a trivial question which I do no want to discuss here. Just come for the meetings and we can discuss, ” he told reporters after delivering a keynote address at the Sixth International Conference on History and Culture here yesterday.
He was asked to comment on claims by PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin that she had sent three letters to him seeking a reconciliation meeting between two factions in PKR. However, on Monday, PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail shot down Zuraida’s request for a reconciliation meeting, saying that anyone who wishes to reconcile with Anwar should attend the monthly PKR meetings. Last week, Zuraida said that Anwar has yet to meet with key party leaders in an effort to reconcile with them, amid their absence at some party meetings. Asked by reporters on how long will PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali get “immunity” from disciplinary action owing to his boycott of the monthly meetings, Anwar said he was unaware of such a boycott. “I do not know if it is a boycott or not. What I know is that he has been absent and I have advised him to attend, ” he said. Previously, Anwar had said there would be no action against Azmin for his absence as the latter had already explained the reasons for his lack of attendance. However, Anwar noted that Azmin was not immune to disciplinary action but had always given reasons for his absence. On another matter, Anwar said he considered the issue over his succession to the post of Prime Minister as “settled” despite talks surfacing about the issue which had been causing jitters among investors.
