Tyler Sayers of Mobile's POST: “I have complete strangers every month show up. Nobody knows anybody. By the end of it, they’re doing business deals together. They’re going into the bar after the class and having drinks together. That’s why I do it.”
Ten people gathered for a cocktail class at POST in Mobile, Alabama on May 25, 2022. The class, hosted by Tyler Sayers, is held the last Wednesday of every month. On a stormy Wednesday in south Alabama, around the same time many might be on their way to midweek church services, a cocktail class is about to begin.
It’s the same reason why he also jokingly requires that people finish the drink that they worked on before the entire class can move on to the next one. A class attendee holds a bubble gun at POST in downtown Mobile on May 25, 2022. The gun was used to craft a drink at a monthly cocktail class held the last Wednesday of each month.
The class is capped at 16 attendees each month because Sayers wants every class to be personable and wants to be able to give personal help if needed.Mobile student is the first Black female Eagle Scout in Alabama: ‘A lot of people are looking at me’ “I don’t do this to make money. I do this because I want people to know you can go into any bar, any restaurant and have a good time,” Sayers said. After crafting a drink that matched the walls of the business and another drink that sparkled each time the light hit it, the volume in the room rivaled the volume of the other half of the bar as well as the thunder outside.
“I have complete strangers every month show up. Nobody knows anybody,” Sayers said. “By the end of it, they’re doing business deals together. They’re going into the bar after the class and having drinks together. That’s why I do it.”
