Bayonne, Harrison, Union City, West New York and North Bergen will all educate remotely from Jan. 3 to at least Jan. 7.
Woodrow Wilson Community School in Bayonne. The district is one of at least five that will be remote next week. At least five Hudson County school districts have decided to go remote next week, but the largest district, Jersey City, is still planning to hold in-person classes.
Many districts decided to work collaboratively and go remote at the same time in the hopes of helping to contain cases, said Ralph Passante, Union City’s district coordinator of data and community development.Guttenberg, Secaucus and the Hudson County Schools of Technology have announcements on their websites that they will have in-person learning and early dismissal next week.
“In-person instruction is actually the best for children,” Deputy Superintendent Norma Fernandez said. “We’re hoping that using the recommendations for protection – mask, vaccinations, testing – that we’re able to remain open for students.” Kearny Superintendent of Schools Patricia Blood said she planned to announce her decision for next week’s schooling by noon Thursday. East Newark’s Richard Corbett said he would have a decision Thursday as well.A Dec. 22 note from acting Secaucus Superintendent of Schools Daniela Riser on the town’s Board of Education“Our cases have risen recently but do not warrant a total closure of our school district,” she wrote.
