A storm erupted last month about Hard Rock’s ties to a deal for casino operator Star. This was not the first time such perplexity had emerged, it can be revealed.
Bureaucrats were confused with two proposals mentioning Hard Rock.The Brisbane developer central to a storm about Hard Rock’s involvement in a deal for Australian casino operatorhad previously dropped the US entertainment outfit’s name in talks about a potential Gold Coast gambling zone.
Mr Farrugia said sometimes prospective deal partners might be interested in a licensing and branding deal, and other times they might “want to take up the opportunity and own-operate directly”. A Tourism Department spokesman did not confirm or deny Mr Farrugia’s discussions but said the government dealt directly with Hard Rock International representatives “for all official dealings on procurement of new integrated resort developments”.
