Australian shares are poised to open higher, as Wall Street benchmarks recovered from an initial post Fed statement swoon as chairman Jerome Powell made clear no decisions have been made on future moves.even though they updated projections and pointed to rates peaking another half point higher later this year.In New York: BHP +2.1% Rio +2.5% Atlassian -0.3%Shares in New York swung, as they often do, in the first hour after a Fed statement is released. The Dow was down about 0.
The local currency was 0.4 per cent higher near 6am; it had been near 1 per cent higher before the Fed statement and promptly turned modestly negative. The Bloomberg dollar spot index slipped 0.2 per cent.The yield on the US 10-year note was 3 basis points lower to 3.79 per cent at 4.59pm in New York; the yield had been 4 basis points lower ahead of the Fed’s statement.
