ROG Ally was launched last year. Now, the Taiwanese brand has confirmed an improved version of the first-generation handheld console. It’s not going to be the Ally 2, a true successor to the original offering. Instead, the upcoming iteration is the ROG Ally X and it will be announced early next month. ASUS SVP Shawn YenThe ASUS ROG Ally X will be launched on June 2. It is confirmed to pack changes in terms of battery life, RAM and SSD, ports, physical changes, and more repairability.
ASUS revealed that the ROG Ally will have more than 16GB RAM capacity found in the current generation so that it can be allocated to the GPU without impacting the system. The SSD slot is also getting an upgrade from the M.2 2230 to M.2 2280 meaning users can plug in larger drives. The company has also moved the SD card reader away from the heatsink.
ASUS says that the improvements will make the Ally X a bit more expensive than the original console. However, the latter is said to stick around and get some discounts.
