SINGAPORE — Shares in Asia-Pacific were set for a lower start on Thursday after heavy losses on Wall Street overnight. Futures pointed to a lower open for Japanese stocks. The Nikkei futures contract in Chicago was at 26,225 while its counterpart in Osaka was at 26,290. That compared against thelast close at 26,911.20. Japan's trade data for April is set to be out at 7:50 a.m. HK/SIN on Thursday.
Australian stocks also looked poised for a negative open, with the SPI futures contract at 7,047, against the last close at 7,182.70. Australia's jobs data for April is expected to be released at 9:30 a.m. HK/SIN today.
