Mr Puska, 33, of Lynally Grove in Mucklagh, Co Offaly, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of 23 year old schoolteacher and musician

Jozef Puska wasn’t under the influence of any drugs that could affect his behaviour when he admitted to murder, an expert has said.

The court has already heard that Mr Puska said “I did it. I am the murderer,” when speaking to gardai with the help of an interpreter on the phone in St James Hospital on the evening of January 14. He was also provided with anaesthetic fentanyl, a neuromuscular blocking agent, and an antibiotic - all of which is standard medical procedure, the witness said.

He told the court that Mr Puska couldn’t have had any more than 8.25 milligrams of Oxycodone in his system when he was being interviewed by gardai in the evening of January 14th. He also said that in many cases from the medical notes he was provided, Mr Puska was being referred to as being alert and awake.

Professor Ryan said he did not recall this and went on to say that it was not his responsibility to read garda notes - but to investigate the drugs that were administered to the accused and what possible effects they might have. He told the court that he observed a jacket, a pair of sunglasses and a set of keys on the ground - and that each of these items were covered to protect them from the elements.
