With Jason Van Dyke's release date nearing, critics say that Chicago police reforms sparked by the murder of Laquan McDonald are moving too slowly.
CHICAGO -- It was a watershed moment for Chicago police and the entire city of Chicago when Laquan McDonald was shot 16 times and killed by police officer Jason Van Dyke.
"Chicago has made very slow progress in implementing the terms of the consent decree," said Shareese Pryor, Dir. Police Accountability, BPI Chicago. "There are way too many steps left to go to ensure that we don't see another Laquan McDonald," Pryor said.Activists continue fight for federal civil rights charges against Jason Van Dyke ahead of release
"Jason Van Dyke was the first police officer in 50 years who was convicted of committing a crime while on duty," Lightfoot said.
