VOICES | Artists' open letter to Cyril Ramaphosa about copyright legislation

We, the undersigned representatives of South Africa's Progressive Cultural and Creative Industry Organizations, Legends & Practitioners, are writing to express our grave concern and profound disappointment regarding the recent passing of the Copyright Amendment Bill by the National Assembly.

Our industry has tirelessly engaged in various forms of advocacy, including lobbying; protesting; attending public consultations; engaging with the department of trade, industry and competition; discussion with parliamentarians from various political parties; and signing petitions to communicate our dissatisfaction with the bill in its current form. Despite these efforts, the voices of our creative community continue to be overlooked, and our concerns remain unaddressed.
