OpenAI first hinted at its text-to-video AI model, Sora , in February and since then, has not provided any updates on its release date. Recently, some artists reportedly leaked access to the model as a protest against being used for what they claim is unpaid research and development and public relations efforts. A group of Sora beta testers claim to have leaked early access to the model, providing a working interface for video generation.
In a post on Hugging Face, they mentioned that people were able to create numerous AI videos before OpenAI took action to shut down access. The group released an open letter criticizing OpenAI for using artists as unpaid testers and for what they term 'art washing,' or using the credibility of the artistic community to promote corporate products. They also expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of artist-friendly policies and support beyond mere public relations stunts
