Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has called on his players to remain fully focused on their upcoming Premier League clash against West Ham United, despite the looming Champions League final. With a five-point lead at the top of the league and a historic double within reach, Arteta emphasized the importance of maintaining their hunger and desire as they enter the final stretch of the season.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has called on his players to maintain their relentless pursuit of success as they enter a pivotal three-week period that could see the club clinch their first Premier League title since 2004 and their maiden Champions League trophy.
The Gunners secured their place in the Champions League final with a hard-fought victory over Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, while they currently hold a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League with just three matches remaining. Second-placed Manchester City, however, still have a game in hand, adding an extra layer of tension to the title race.
Arteta, speaking ahead of Sunday’s crucial away fixture against West Ham United, emphasized the importance of staying focused on the immediate task at hand. Stay present. Live in the moment. Prepare and show the same level of energy, hunger, and desire we have shown all season, or more.
We are closer and closer, and everything we do is going to matter, the manager told reporters on Friday. With the Champions League final against defending champions Paris Saint-Germain scheduled for May 30, Arteta stressed that his team must not look beyond their upcoming Premier League clash. We will have time to prepare and get ready for the final, but now, the full focus and attention to detail, all the energy now has to be put into West Ham.
We made that very clear, Arteta said. I was in a really high emotional state after the Atletico game. We know what it means to everybody. But, you have to believe me, straight after that, my concentration, my focus, my energy, and my attention was West Ham, what do we have to do mentally, physically, tactically, and technically to prepare in the best possible way to go there and win the game.
West Ham, who are currently just one point above the relegation zone, have been a tough nut to crack at home, remaining unbeaten in the league since January. They have held both Manchester United and Manchester City to draws and secured a victory over Everton. Understanding the context of the game for both clubs, it's huge. We know the importance of it, we know what we want and what we have to do to win the game, Arteta added.
The stakes could not be higher for both teams, with Arsenal aiming to secure a historic double and West Ham fighting to preserve their top-flight status. The match promises to be a high-intensity affair, with Arteta’s side determined to keep their momentum going as they chase an unprecedented double
