A man has been fatally shot dead by police in Sydney's south-west on Sunday morning.

"Officers from Bankstown Police Area Command were called to a home in William Street, about 8.50am , responding to reports of a domestic violence-related incident," NSW Police confirmed in a statement.

"On arrival, officers were allegedly threatened by an armed man; a Taser was deployed before a police officer discharged his firearm." Police immediately rendered first aid to the man until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived at the scene. A critical incident team, including officers from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, will now commence an investigation into the event.

"A critical incident team comprised of officers from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad will now investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the discharge of a police firearm," the statement continued. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
