On July 18, the Securities Commission Malaysia updated its guidelines on investment advice due to the rising popularity of ‘finfluencers’. They can post on platforms like YouTube, Instagram, or TikTok, sharing tips about investing in crypto, saving for retirement, or buying property. In some cases, ‘finfluencers’ have persuaded followers to buy into financial scams and illegal services.These regulations do not just apply to ‘finfluencers’; anyone that is thinking of sharing investment opportunities will need to comply with the new guidelines from the SC.and verify if the company they promote is authorised by the SC.
