A lightning port in disguise? 🥹 AppleiPhone15series TechNave

The iPhone 15 series that’s coming later year is expected to feature USB-C in accordance with the latest EU regulations. However, despite the universal nature of the port, Apple is reportedly planning to limit its functionality, whereby it may not work with accessories not approved by the tech giant.

Shared by a tipster on Weibo, Apple may integrate an authenticator chip on the USB-C port which is found in the Lightning port on iPhones now. The tipster, who claimed to be an integrated circuit expert with 25 years of experience working on Intel’s Pentium processors asserted that Apple has developed its own USB-C variant on the iPhone 15 series.

This authenticator chip may be integrated with the USB-C port on the upcoming iPhone as well as on the official charging cables. Hence, third-party accessories that do not have this chip may prompt a “This accessory is not supported” warning when plugged into the iPhone 15 series or may just not function correctly.

Of course, do take this with a grain of salt as nothing is confirmed as of yet. Well, it is worth noting that other Apple products that already utilise USB-C like the latest iPad lineups have no such limitation. What do you guys think?
