Members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia State, have expressed their joy over the sack of Emeka Nnamani of the Labour Party from the House of Representatives by the Court of Appeal.
The Appeal Court in its ruling, on Thursday, upheld the verdict of the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Umuahia, which sacked Nnamani from the green chamber, for allegedly forging his academic records in September. The Court declared the respondent in the appeal case, Mascot Ikwuechegh of the APGA, winner of the February 25 election for Aba North and Aba South Federal constituency and dismissed the prayers brought by Emeka Nnamani of the Labour Party for lacking in merit.
But not satisfied with the result, the runner-up, Alex Mascot Ikwuechegh challenged the election result at the tribunal, saying that Nnamani did not win the election and was not even qualified to stand for election because he allegedly forged some of his academic records. The tribunal ruled in his favour on September 11, 2023, but Emeka Nnamani took the matter to the Appeal Court, where he failed.
