Apex court to rule on Najib’s SRC verdict review bid
The Federal Court will tomorrow rule on Najib Razak’s bid to review his conviction and 12 years’ jail sentence and fine for misappropriation of RM42 million in SRC International Sdn Bhd funds. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, March 30, 2023.
Najib, 69, who is currently serving a 12-year jail term in Kajang prison, is seeking to overturn the decision made by a five-member bench of the Federal Court led by Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat on Aug 23 last year. During six-day proceedings that started on January 19, Najib’s lead counsel Muhammad Shafee Abdullah argued the earlier bench that heard Najib’s main appeal made a fundamental error in law by not allowing the adjournment of the trial and then not allowing Najib’s ex-counsel Hisyam Teh Poh Teik to discharge himself.
