SANTIAGO CITY, Isabela: The vice mayor of Aparri town in Cagayan and five of his companions were killed in an ambush in Nueva Vizcaya Sunday, police said.The fatalities were Vice Mayor Rommel Alameda, who was on his third term and was being groomed to run for mayor in the next elections, and his aides, initial police reports said.
The victims were on board a Hyundai Starex black car when gunned down. They were on their way home when waylaid by the masked gunmen who wore police uniforms. The assailants, on board a white Mitsubishi Adventure with a red plate, blocked the highway near the MV Duque Elementary School in Bagabag town and when the car of Alameda approached, they peppered it with bullets.The victims were taken to the Region 2 Trauma and Medical Center but were declared dead on arrival.
