JUST IN: AOC facing House ethics investigation after ‘Tax the Rich’ Met Gala freebie
Ocasio-Cortez made waves at the gala wearing a designer-made dress emblazoned with the words: “Tax the Rich.”
“The Committee notes that the mere fact of a referral or an extension, and the mandatory disclosure of such an extension and the name of the subject of the matter, does not itself indicate that any violation has occurred, or reflect any judgment on behalf of the Committee,” a statement read. Conservative groups allege, however, that such an allowance does not apply to the Met Gala, since invitations are controlled by a for-profit company — media conglomerate Conde Nast — and the tables at the event are similarly sponsored by corporate entities.
Ocasio-Cortez was previously the subject of two ethics complains related to her attendance at the 2021 Met Gala with boyfriend Riley Roberts and designer“If AOC had not been a Member, she would not have been invited to the Gala,” the NLPC complaint read, “and even if she would have been invited as a private citizen, the designer would not have made a special dress for her to wear at the event.”
