PETALING JAYA: PKR president Anwar Ibrahim says he is prepared to cooperate with the police following Bukit Aman’s statement this morning that he will be called in over the allegations of sexual assault by his former aide.
“I would like to stress that I am prepared to give my statement to the police immediately to assist in the investigations,” he said in a statement today.Police earlier said they would record statements from Anwar and other witnesses as part of the probe into claims of sexual assault by Muhammed Yusoff Rawther.
Yusoff, 26, was a research assistant at Anwar’s office in Petaling Jaya until earlier this year, when he claimed he was assaulted by the Port Dickson MP’s political secretary, Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak. He has since slapped a civil suit against Farhash, although Farhash denies the accusations.
Yusoff himself was summoned to Bukit Aman twice this week over the police report he filed against Anwar last Saturday, as well as his statutory declaration accusing the PKR leader of trying to outrage his modesty. Bukit Aman Ciminal Investigation Department director Huzir Mohamed said the case is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code.Subscribe to our newsletter and get news delivered to your mailbox.
