Apart from expanding bilateral trade and investment linkages, Anwar is expected to discuss various regional issues of mutual interest with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on Tuesday . Underlining their growing economic ties, Indian media reports mentioned that India and Malaysia are in the process of strengthening the framework for conducting trade in national currencies.

Trade in commodities, especially Malaysian palm oil exports to India, defence cooperation, and semiconductor manufacturing, are viewed as key areas of further expansion in relations. India's Ministry of External Affairs in its announcement on Sunday , noted that the bilateral relationship was elevated to the status of"Enhanced Strategic Partnership" in 2015 during Modi’s visit to Malaysia.
