Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim emphasizes the need for Malaysia to focus on pressing issues and collaborate as a nation, warning that trivial debates will hinder progress and economic growth.
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has cautioned that continued debates on trivial issues will only weaken and threaten the nation's strength. 'Such talk will not ensure our growth and our success in ensuring that Malaysia is an important player in the region. We must work together as a great team, as Malaysians from all regions, states, and communities,' he said in his keynote address at the Malaysia Economic Forum 2025 on Thursday (Jan 9).
Anwar pointed out that such discussions divert attention away from resolving pressing issues faced by the rakyat. He noted that the nation currently has the opportunity to better manage its economy. 'This is our best chance for the country to manage the economy well while increasing efforts and collaboration to focus on our work on the best mediums to bring change and adaptation,' he said. Anwar stressed the importance of his administration not adopting a'government knows best' approach but rather listening to the rakyat's needs when addressing issues. 'We do not claim that the government knows best unless we are prepared to listen and make the necessary adjustments regarding our flaws. This is a tradition which is not a stranger to us in the East,' he said
