KLANG: An animal rescuer has filed an injunction at the Ipoh High Court to prevent a local authority from shooting streay dogs.
Malaysian Animal Welfare Organisation founder S. Mukunan filed the urgent ex-parte application after sighting a Manjung Municipal Council circular on a stray dog-shooting exercise from July 1 to July 4 as well as July 6 to July 11.
He added that shooting stray dogs is an ineffective and outdated way to curb overpopulation, saying that it would only cause pain and suffering. “Our key focus is to get TNRM endorsed throughout Malaysia, as well as to initiate more awareness campaigns," he said, adding that dogs that are shot are generally in great pain before they finally die.
