The heir of AnheuserBusch, Billy Busch, expressed what be believed would have been his ancestors' disapproval of the company's recent marketing with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. 'My ancestors would have rolled over in their graves.'
Busch appeared for an interview that became a debate with TMZ's Harvey Levin over Bud Light's brief campaign with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, a biological man who identifies as a woman. Months ago, Anheuser Busch sent Mulvaney a personalized can, which led to two social media posts that went viral. View this post on Instagram A post shared by TMZ
"I think my family — my ancestors would have rolled over in their graves," Busch responded when Levin asked what he thought about the fallout following the company's involvement with Mulvaney."They believed that transgender, um, gays, that sort of thing was all a very personal issue. They loved this country because it is a free country and people are allowed to do what they want, but it was never meant to be on a beer can and pushed in people's faces.
Busch lamented that the company used to be"one of the greatest marketers ever in any business" and devolved to"controversial" marketing tactics. Levin pointed out that the company sponsored pride events in homage to the LGBT community previously to little outcry, and suggested the customer base is"prejudiced" against transgender people.
"I just don't think the audience that drinks beer is into transgenders," Busch said."People who drink beer care about wholesome things."A second-quarter report from Anheuser-Busch revealed its revenue fell by 10% in the United States, a loss of $400 million, while its sales in U.S. retailers went down by 14% when compared to the previous year.
As a result, a recent statement from a company official disclosed that close to 2% of its total domestic workforce, which adds up to several hundred employees, is set to be laid off.
