B. Raja, 27, managed to extricate himself out of the fast flowing water and cling to oil palm tree along the flooded river before he was rescued by firemen about 9.25am.

Triang Fire and Rescue station chief Muhammad Redzuan Rahimpudin said a group of youths who were casting their fishing nets across the river heard the victim shouting for help before they alerted the department. "Firemen deployed a fibre boat to track down the victim along the river before they spotted him shouting for help while clinging to an oil palm tree. The victim was shivering in the cold and suffered leg cramps," he said today.
