Suarez is charged with seven runs in his first start of the season, an 11-2 loss. The Angels’ starters had combined to give up just three earned runs in the first four games of the season.

SEATTLE — José Suarez began his season with a little extra velocity on his slider.

Suarez gave up seven runs, including four on a pair of booming homers by Teoscar Hernandez, in the Angels’ 11-2 loss to the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night. The Angels were down 1-0 in the fourth when Suarez threw an 83.9 mph slider that hung at Hernandez’s thighs. He crushed it 419 feet to straightaway center field.

The command was missing, though. He also gave up an RBI double to Cal Raleigh and a single to Eugenio Suarez on the pitch.
