Andor creator Tony Gilroy explains how long Stellan Skarsgård's Luthen and Forest Whitaker's Saw have known each other. 'I don't really know. I'd be making it up. But, I think it goes back a bit.'
Tony Gilroy, showrunner on the latest Star Wars television series Andor, has revealed how long Stellan Skarsgård’s Luthen Rael has known the Rebel insurgent Saw Gerrera. Played by the Academy Award-winning actor Forest Whitaker, Saw Gerrera’s character was first introduced in the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars series where he was voiced by Andrew Kishino.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Whitaker recently reprised the role in this year’s Andor series, where his character interacted with Luthen Rael, the covert organizer of a loose network of Rebel spies and operatives during the Rebellion’s formative years. While it was clear from their dealings that the two Rebels had an already established relationship, Andor had not revealed exactly how long the pair had worked together in their fight against the Empire.
I don't have a fixed date. I would assume, I'll say six years. I don't really know. I'd be making it up. But, I think it goes back a bit.Saw Gerrera's Role In Andor Season 2 At present, it is not yet known whether Whitaker will reprise his role as Saw for Andor season 2, though given his character’s importance in the fight against the Empire before the events of the original Star Wars trilogy, it would be safe to assume he will return.
When audiences were first introduced to Saw’s Partisans in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, it was clear that Mon Mothma, Bail Organa and the other Rebel leadership sought to distance themselves from Saw’s questionable tactics. While their respective goals aligned, it is clear that during the formation of the Rebel Alliance, Saw’s group were either not willing or not welcome to join the Rebellion’s greater fighting force.
Andor season 2 may also provide audiences may even have an opportunity to see Saw take his fight to Jedha, the location of the kyber crystal mining operation responsible for supplying the construction of the Death Star. With the season 1 finale post-credit scene teasing the Death Star’s presence, the series may be looking to further weave the Empire’s planet killing battle station into its unfolding narrative.
