Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport released the final draft of its Master Plan to guide airport development over the next 20 years.
“The purpose of this plan is really to prepare the airport to continue to operate efficiently, safely, and accommodate that growth in a way that makes sense for the airport, for the community, and serve the folks who use the facility on a daily basis,” Pfahler said.
“Where our alternatives really focus is on making sure that we have sufficient airside infrastructure, runways, taxiways and apron areas,” Pfahler said. “That the terminal can accommodate the passenger demand and the airline operations. That we have sufficient real estate development opportunities for general aviation activities and, of course, accommodating air cargo.”On Wednesday, Pfahler answered questions about the plan with a group of stakeholders in advance of a public open house.
Participants raised their concerns. Cathy Gleason with the Turnagain Community Council questioned why the plan includes a fourth runway that spans not just airport land, but dedicated parkland at Point Woronzoff and a portion of the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, when the controversial runway has been rejected in the past.
