A high surf advisory is now in effect through Wednesday morning due to dangerous swimming and surfing conditions along the entire central California coastline, the National Weather Service. Along the Pacific coast, water will likely surge farther inland and cause some beach erosion, according to the NWS website, and meteorologists have also seen massive swells form farther out in the ocean.
NWS meteorologist David King told SFGATE that he had already spotted 20-foot-tall waves near Point Reyes, a bucolic tourist destination about 50 miles from San Francisco — and they're likely going to get even larger. “The swell has already arrived,” he said. “And it's going to continue to build throughout the course of the day,” he continued, explaining that breaking waves could reach 25 feet.
