Police Gen. Benjamin Acorda, Jr., chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), has ordered all police commanders to supervise their men well amid the series of involvement of policemen in controversies the past days.
“I am reiterating my warning to our commanders to exercise supervision and control on our policemen especially in the conduct of operations… I urge that there should be proper briefing in every operation,” said Acorda.
Acorda explained that operations-related issues could be preemptively-addressed through careful planning before the conduct of any operation, apparently citing the case in Navotas. He said the purpose is to ensure that no civilians are caught in the crossfire and that the operation is done in a way that would not lead to violence.
“With all the noble and good intentions, there are parts of the operations that would result in lapses for lack of briefing or lack of proper preparation or coordination and that results in somewhat gray areas that turn into operational lapses,” said Acorda.
