ICYMI: Amazon is looking to bring its new biometric terminal to third-party merchants, like coffee shops and fast-food chains:
. Licensing this new terminal would enable Amazon to grow its presence in brick-and-mortar, giving it access to the channel that still sees the bulk of retail sales. And adding in-store payment acceptance with this terminal could help it garner more volume and build out its financial services offerings after entering the Recording in-store transactions would deepen Amazon's data collection capabilities.
Consumers may be concerned about providing their biometric information. Consumers may not be willing to provide the necessary biometric information to use the terminals because of privacy and safety concerns — 56% of consumers that using biometrics for payments would cause a dramatic increase in identity fraud — potentially hurting the terminals' adoption.
