... [+]Amazon has a goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 2040. To help it get there, the retailing giant announced a partnership with StreetScooter to use its electric delivery vans at one of its distribution centers in Europe.
StreetScooter manufacturers a line of electric commercial vehicles based on the Ford Transit platform and designed specifically for delivery and courier services. To support these EV trucks and vans, it also provides charging station installation. The Deutsche Post DHL subsidiary builds its vehicles in Germany, and has plans to launch its EVs in the U.S. in the next few months.
The company will deploy 40 of its Work Box electric vans at the Amazon distribution center in Munich Daglfing, and has installed 60 EV charging stations to support the new vehicles. “Amazon is committed to achieving the Paris agreement targets ten years ahead of schedule – in 2040 instead of 2050 – so we are collaborating with a number of different partners developing new technologies and helping promote a carbon-neutral economy,” explained Adam Elman, Senior Lead Sustainability, Amazon Europe, in a news statement.
