Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) President Mohamad Sabu claims that PAS' support for former Prime Minister Najib Razak is merely a facade to win Malay votes. He believes PAS will eventually discard Najib if he no longer benefits the party politically. Mohamad, who spent over 37 years within PAS, alleges that the party's ulama indoctrinated him with the belief that the ideological differences between PAS and UMNO extend beyond political ideologies to encompass religious beliefs. He recounts how this influenced his personal relationships and even his choice of mosques to pray in, avoiding those with pro-UMNO imams.
