KOTA KINABALU: A Slovakian had to be carried down Mount Kinabalu after he suffered from Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) on Tuesday (March 21) morning.
The 68-year-old was believed on his way down from the summit with his friends when he started to have difficulty breathing, feeling dizzy and nauseous at the Layang-Layang rest checkpoint.
Sabah Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Hamsa Isnurdini said they received a call about the matter a 11.46am.He said the man was given preliminary medical attention with assistance from Sabah Parks rangers and mountain guides among others. Hamsa said the man was later brought down to the Timpohon gate using a Robinson Stretcher before he was sent to the Ranau Hospital for further treatment.It is learnt that the Slovakian had scaled up Mount Kinabalu on Monday and he was supposed to return to the base on Tuesday .
