Many schools along the New South Wales South Coast will be closed on Tuesday as unseasonably high temperatures have created an extreme fire danger.

The closures come as the NSW Rural Fire Service has enacted a total fire ban for the entire Sydney region for the first time in three years.

The last total fire ban covering Sydney was back in November 2020 when a heatwave saw the mercury rise to 40 degrees in Australia's largest city. "Sydney is on track to smash its September record for consecutive days over 30 degrees," he told SkyNews.com.au on Monday.
