The shooting Friday evening was less than two blocks from the PPL Center in Allentown. A 20-year-old Coplay man was killed.
Allentown policeOfficials said Xavier I. Arnold, 20, allegedly assaulted another individual shortly after 8 p.m. Friday at Eighth and Maple streets in Allentown.
One of the officers was apparently struck by a projectile that penetrated his shirt and nicked his protective vest, according to Lehigh County District Attorney James Martin.A semi-automatic handgun was recovered from Arnold and shell casings were found near him, Martin said. Martin said the officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the full investigation., a major downtown venue in close proximity to several bars and restaurants.are scheduled to play a hockey game at the PPL Center Saturday night. The team was on the road the night of the shooting. The Phantoms are the American Hockey League affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers.
An investigation into the shooting is being conducted by the Allentown Police Department, the Lehigh County Homicide Task Force, Lehigh County district attorney’s office and the Lehigh County coroner’s office.
