John Matthew Salilig, the 24-year-old chemical engineering student who died after allegedly undergoing a Tau Gamma Phi fraternity initiation rite in Laguna, was laid to rest on Saturday morning at his hometown in Zamboanga City.
Citing information from GMA Regional TV One Mindanao, Super Radyo dzBB reported that Salilig’s funeral was held together with that of his grandfather Romulo Salilig at a private cemetery in Barangay Tumaga.Their bodies were brought to the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Concepcion in Zamboanga City for a funeral Mass.
Friends and relatives of the Salilig family, as well as local government officials and members of the Tau Gamma Phi Zamboanga City Chapter, attended the funeral.Efren Mamac of GMA Regional TV One Mindanao reported that tarpaulins calling for justice for Salilig were displayed during the funeral procession.
