This Saturday, the $600 weekly additional unemployment benefit created under the March CARES Act will expire — cutting laid-off workers’ checks by 50 to 80 percent, depending on where they live
House Democrats have already passed legislation extending the CARES Act’s enhanced unemployment program through January. But Rep. Bobby Scott , chair of the House Education and Labor Committee, hasn’t ruled out a compromise on the actual dollar amount. “We’ll have to see what the offer is,” Scott said at the same POLITICO event, adding that the current program is working and has been “an essential part” of the economy’s recovery so far.
