A truck driver had finished a vehicle recovery job for Northern Territory Police when he was allegedly randomly attacked, with concerns he could be left permanently blind.

A truck driver, only known as Matt, had been tasked by his company with removing a stolen car that was involved in an alleged abduction on Wednesday night.

"He's driven past a verge in the road, slightly turning to the left and someone's thrown a rock through the side window and hit Matt in the eye," he said on AM Agenda. The truck driver's boss Andrew Mowles told Sky News Australia it was an"intentional" attack on a person who was simply doing his job. Picture: Supplied

Northern Territory Police is seeking information about the incident, which occurred at the intersection of Larapinta Drive and the Stuart Highway. "This was a great outcome from Alice Springs police officers who located the child and swiftly arrested the suspect," he said in a statement. Figures claimed youth disturbances had dropped by 36 per cent, break ins have almost halved and alcohol-related violence was down by 27 per cent since January.
