An Alice Springs business owner has used a crowded community meeting to try to rally support for a class action against the Northern Territory government, citing damages from an ongoing crime wave plaguing the town.

However, Mr Thompson said the control measures put forward by the government were "sometimes quite disgusting".

"We're all controlled and we're all put in a place where we're disadvantaged by their decisions to try [to] fix our problems with a band-aid and it's wrong."Christine Burke, a local teacher, said she wanted recognition for residents who were fed up with crime in the town but did not support a class action."It's really our government, so it'll be our money.

Speaking to the ABC after the meeting, Warlpiri elder Robin Japanangka Granites said Aboriginal people were best-placed to connect with the young people who were engaging in criminal behaviour. Mr Japanangka Granites said he attended the meeting to show his "support for the people of Alice Springs"."It's sad, because it's our kids that are doing it and we need to support our kids by going and talking to their parents out in community — not here in Alice Springs, because Alice Springs is not their country," he said.

Alice Springs residents plead with govt to ‘help them save their town’Alice Springs residents plead with govt to ‘help them save their town’Sky News host Peta Credlin says she heard first-hand from Alice Springs residents “just how bad” the town’s crime is, as locals plead with the territory and federal governments to “help them save their town”. “They’ve got a lot of the answers – only to date, no one is listening to them,” she said. She said part of the reason for this is the government has been “focused on a new constitutionally-entrenched Indigenous Voice to the Parliament”. “It hasn’t been listening to the Indigenous voices in Alice and elsewhere, warning that there’s a worsening disaster in remote Australia,” Ms Credlin said.
