Gresini Racing's Alex Marquez emerged as the fastest rider in the 2025 Malaysia MotoGP Test, setting the stage for a potential breakthrough season. Marquez's impressive performance at Sepang International Circuit suggests a strong contender for the upcoming MotoGP championship.

Alex Marquez , the reigning Moto2 and Moto3 world champion, showed immense promise in the 2025 Malaysia MotoGP Test at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC). The 28-year-old Gresini Racing rider topped the three-day Winter Test, clocking a blistering time of 1 minute and 56.493 seconds, just 0.156 seconds shy of Francesco Bagnaia 's lap record set during last year's Malaysian Grand Prix qualifying.

Ducati Lenovo's two-time world champion Bagnaia, known as Pecco, finished second fastest with a time of 1:56.500s, followed by Monster Energy Yamaha's 2021 world champion Fabio Quartararo (1:56.724s) and yesterday's fastest rider, Franco Morbidelli of Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team (1:56.948s). This sets the stage for an intense championship battle this season. Marquez expressed his satisfaction with his Ducati GP24 machine, stating that it responded well to his demands and was one of the best contenders heading into the final pre-season test at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand. He acknowledged the significance of this result for a solid season and a strong position in the championship but remained cautious, emphasizing the need to stay composed and assess their performance in Thailand. Despite his promotion to the premier MotoGP class in 2020 with high expectations, the younger brother of six-time world champion Marc Marquez is yet to taste victory in five seasons, managing only five podium finishes. He acknowledged the importance of this result for a strong season and a good position in the championship battle but stressed the need to stay grounded and continue pushing. He also highlighted the need to observe how other riders and machines perform once factories finalize their setups and components. This final assessment will provide a clearer picture of their standing before the season commences. With the conclusion of the Sepang test, riders will now move to Buriram for the final pre-season testing from February 12-14, followed by the season-opening Thai GP from February 28 to March 2
